2022. FALL/Taubman College Workshop

Year: Taubman College, Fall, 2022
Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan
Type: Workshop
Instructor: Nick Safley, Caitlin Cashner
Collaborators:  Cristina Bara, Mollie Davis, Wenqing Zhong, Yifan Ma, Lindsey Lu , Jared Jenkins, Kraig Sims, Tim Jockers, William Kirsch, Koami Amegnran, Yalan Zhang

Contribution: Participated in the 3-day workshop and the curation of the final exhibition.

We represented a series of new details using digital techniques, joining them to form several newly imagined details.

In this workshop, we scanned five different building components, including handrails, handles, inside and outside corners, baseboards, and switches, using smartphone scanning applications. By capturing material information and converting it into point cloud data, we reimagined new digital forms of joining. Using meshing and photo-merging software, we transformed the 3D-scanned images into 2D collages. Finally, we used a 3D printer to produce the results and integrated them into typical interior light frame construction.
